PRJ4: OLE Objects/Links Don't Work Correctly

Q160646

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

Paste-linked information from source files that reside on a network drive work correctly when created, but fail to work correctly after the files are saved, closed, and reopened.

If you click Links on the Edit menu to view the link source information, the path to the source file is displayed incorrectly, with any or all of the following problems:

CAUSE

These problems with Universal Naming Convention (UNC) path names can occur under the following conditions:

  1. You are connected to a Novell NetWare server.

  2. You are using the Novell NetWare Shell VLM client.

  3. The Netware.drv file version is earlier than version 3.03.

  4. The source file to the paste-linked information resides on the network.

RESOLUTION

If you are using the VLM client, obtain the latest VLM updates and make sure you are using Netware.drv version 3.03 or later.

To determine the version of Netware.drv, from the Windows Control Panel, double-click Network and look for the version of the Netware Device Driver Set.

NOTE: The Novell VLM client Netware.drv files have version numbers from 3.00 to 3.03. Versions 2.00, 2.01, or 2.02, are used with the NETx client and should never be used with the VLM client. The NETx client files don't exhibit this problem.
