PRJ4: Save to Database Doesn't Work Under Windows NT 4.0

SYMPTOMS

Saving project information to a database causes the error:

Winproj4 caused a General Protection Fault in module OLE2DISP.DLL at 0006:01B9
After you click OK, Microsoft Project closes.


CAUSE

The Save to Database utility uses some Visual Basic for Applications code that no longer works correctly under Windows NT 4.0.


WORKAROUND

To workaround this issue, do the following:

  1. Click Tables on the View menu. Click More tables. Click New.


  2. Type the name "mdbexport" (without the quotation marks).


  3. Type the field name of the ID. Click OK.


  4. Click the Resource radio button on the More Tables dialog.


  5. Type the name "mdbexport" (without the quotation marks).


  6. Type the field name of the ID. Click OK.


  7. Click Organizer.


  8. On the right-hand side, click the table mdbexport.


  9. Click Copy to copy the table into the Global.mpt file.


  10. Click Resource to select it.


  11. On the right-hand side, click the table mdbexport.


  12. Click Copy to copy the table into the Global.mpt file.


  13. Click Close. Click Close.


  14. Click Multiple Projects on the Tools menu. Click Save to Database.


You can now save your projects to a database file.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post more information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
