Manipulating Objects in Shade View

The information in this article applies to:
  • Softimage 3D for IRIX, version 3.51
  • Softimage 3D for Windows NT, version 3.51

SUMMARY

The following information outlines a new Softimage 3D feature, called Show Icons, that enables animators to work more directly in Shade view.

The new Show Icons option in the Shade view Setup dialog box lets you display:

  • all items in the Show menu except Link
  • light cones
  • area light icons
  • camera cones, and display of camera (in a non perspective shaded view)
  • edge flags
  • modified area
  • hardware render supports all annotations and colors

These entities appear in the 3D Shade view, and can be manipulated directly inside Shade view, the same way as in the other views. You are now able to manipulate objects: selecting and moving points, modifying nurbs spheres, meshes, lines, etc.

In addition, selected objects appear with a white highlight (wireframe) on top of the shaded object. You can set the highlight width with the environment variable SI_SHADE_HIGHLIGHT_WIDTH (integer widths only). The default width is 2, if you set the value to 0, the highlight is disabled. If you ghost a shaded object in Shade view, it will appear in wireframe. Hence you can mix shaded and wireframe solids in Shade view while still seeing the points/tags etc. on the ghosted objects as well as the shaded ones.

MORE INFORMATION

How To Manipulate Objects In Shade View

  1. Open Shade view, and click Setup.

  2. Select Show Icons from the Setup dialog box and click OK.

  3. Choose the Show command to toggle on any of the listed items (except Link) that you wish to see in Shade view.

If you change the Display Optimization to Shade in the Shade view Setup dialog box, the Shade view does not switch to wireframe when you drag points.
