Error Attempting to Play Movie Clip in Internet Explorer |
Q159954
When you attempt to load a Web page that automatically plays a movie clip or when you click a link to a movie clip in Microsoft Internet Explorer version 3.0 or 3.01 for Windows 95, the following error message may be displayed:
MMSYSTEM296 The file cannot be played on the specified MCI device. The file may be corrupt, or not in the correct format.
This problem may occur when the movie clip you are attempting to play is not compatible with Media Player. By default, Windows 95 is configured so that Media Player is used to play media clips.
If ActiveMovie is not already installed on your computer, you may be able
to work around this problem by installing it.
ActiveMovie is automatically installed when you perform a Full installation
of Internet Explorer and is also available from online services as a self-
extracting file named Amov4ie.exe. ActiveMovie is not installed when you
perform a Typical or Minimal installation of Internet Explorer.
