  • The Microsoft Network version 1.0, 1.05, 1.2, 1.3, 2.0, 2.5

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to connect to MSN, The Microsoft Network, you may receive the following error message:

   Urlmon.dll is missing.

CAUSE

This error can occur if Microsoft Internet Explorer was not installed correctly during MSN Setup, or if the Urlmon.dll file was removed when Netscape Navigator 2.0 was uninstalled. Urlmon.dll is a shared file that is deleted when Netscape Navigator is uninstalled.

RESOLUTION

To reinstall this file, follow these steps:

  1. Hold down the SHIFT key and place the MSN CD-ROM in your CD-ROM drive.

NOTE: Holding down the SHIFT key prevents the AutoRun feature from starting MSN Setup. If Setup does start, cancel it.

  2. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files Or Folders.

  3. In the Named box, type "msie301.exe" (without quotation marks). If you are using version 2.5 of MSN, the Microsoft Network, type "msie302.exe" in the Named box.

  4. In the Look In box, click your CD-ROM drive.

  5. Click Find Now.

  6. In the list of found files, double-click Msie301.exe to reinstall Internet Explorer. If you are using version 2.5 of MSN, double-click Msie302.exe to reinstall Internet Explorer.
