The information in this article applies to:
  • Softimage 3D for IRIX, versions 3.0, 3.5, 3.51
  • Softimage 3D for Windows NT, versions 3.01, 3.51

SUMMARY

Softimage 3D uses Linktab.ini as a way to locate files (references) from other locations. The Linktab.ini file is an ASCII file that is used to specify a one-to-one relationship between UNIX and Windows NT paths. Each line of the Linktab.ini file represents this relationship. It is a simple translation table that provides Softimage 3D with the information you need to locate and load the necessary files.

When Softimage 3D finds a Linktab.ini translation file, an internal table of path translation (Windows NT to UNIX and UNIX to Windows NT) is built. Softimage 3D builds the list of all network drives currently connected to the Windows NT machine and the associated mount point internally. This list in conjunction with the Linktab.ini file provides the necessary information to translate paths from Windows NT to UNIX.

Finding The Linktab.ini Rules

Set the environment variable SI_LINKTAB_DEBUG=yes.

To find the NT>UNIX and UNIX>NT mount rules for Linktab.ini, at the "soft" command prompt, type: "soft linktab."

The SI_linktabInitialize prints out on the screen that displays the Windows NT drive table and the mount rules.
