DNS Server Glue Data Is Deleted

SYMPTOMS

The Domain Name System (DNS) server stopped answering queries for the delegated domain. Inspection of server using DNS Manager showed that Glue records for delegated domains are deleted from the online database. As a result, the DNS Server Delegation fails.

CAUSE

The DNS Server Delegation fails because the Glue data is deleted.

RESOLUTION

Use the updated Dns.exe.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 4.0. This problem was corrected in the latest Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 U.S. Service Pack. For information on obtaining the service pack, query on the following word in the Microsoft Knowledge Base (without the spaces):
