News Tab Missing in IE 2.0 After Upgrade to IE 3.0

Last reviewed: January 14, 1997
Article ID: Q159018
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 2.0, 3.0 for Windows 95

SYMPTOMS

After upgrading from Internet Explorer 2.0 to Internet Explorer 3.0, the News tab is missing when you click Options on the View menu in the renamed Ie20.exe (Internet Explorer 2.0) file.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you installed and removed a Beta version of Internet Explorer 3.0 before you installed the released version. This causes Internet Explorer 3.0 to be installed in the "Program Files\ Microsoft Internet" folder instead of the "Program Files\Plus!\Microsoft Internet" folder in which Internet Explorer 2.0 is located.

Because Internet Explorer 3.0 does not have built-in support for newsgroups, the DLLs that are required for Internet Explorer 2.0 to view newsgroups are missing.

RESOLUTION

To resolve the problem, follow these steps:

  1. Use the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel to remove Internet Explorer 3.0. For detailed information about this process, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
