The information in this article applies to:

  • Softimage 3D for Windows NT, versions 3.0, 3.01, 3.51

SYMPTOMS

Databases are lost when you delete an old version of Softimage 3D.

CAUSE

The directory, Soft|3d\bin, is the default location where Softimage 3D databases are created. This is also the location where all the executable files reside. When you remove an old version of Softimage 3D in preparation for installing the latest version, any databases in the Soft|3d\bin are also removed.

RESOLUTION

Complete the follow procedure to ensure that your working directory is different from the directory where the Softimage 3D executable files reside.

  1. Select the Soft|3D group icon, and then simultaneously press the right ALT button and Enter. A dialog box appears showing default properties for the software.

  2. Change the default Working Directory from "...soft3d\bin" to another location such as: "C:\users\default."

Now the working directory is located in the location that you specified.
