PRB: Unable to Run Softimage 3D After Installation

The information in this article applies to:

  • Softimage 3D for Windows NT, version 3.51

SYMPTOMS

You are unable to run Softimage 3D after installation.

CAUSE

Possible Causes

  • The environment variable 744@"hostname" is incorrectly set (for FLEXlm client only).
  • TCP/IP was not installed.
  • You do not have a network card installed.
  • A valid user account was not created under <drive letter>:\USERS.
  • Unwarranted spaces exist in the License.dat file.
  • The backslashes at the end of the PACKAGE and INCREMENT lines were not followed with a hard return but with a space (common error).
  • Each line following PACKAGE and INCREMENT did not begin with one space.
  • Tabs were used in the License.dat file.

RESOLUTION

This procedure should only be used you after you have attempted to resolve the error messages, were unsuccessful, and cannot run Softimage 3D.

In this procedure, you remove and reinstall the FLEXlm License Server service:

  1. From Control Panel, double-click Services.

  2. Stop the FLEXlm License Server.

  3. Open a DOS command prompt.

  4. Type: cd C:\FLEXlm

  5. Once in the C:\FLEXlm directory, type: install remove

  6. Type: install C:\FLEXlm\lmgrd.exe

  7. Return to Control Panel>Services.

  8. Start the FLEXlm License Server.

  9. If there are no error messages, start Softimage 3D from the Program Manager.
