XADM: Deleted Mailbox Still Shows Up in GAL

Last reviewed: April 15, 1997

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Exchange Server, version 4.0

SYMPTOMS

During Directory Replication, there are times when a mailbox that has been deleted on one Microsoft Exchange server continues to show up in the Global Address List (GAL) as well as in containers on the other sites.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem:

  1. Set the Directory Replication Connector schedule to Always.

  2. Re-create the mailbox using the same organization, site, and alias name on the original server.

  3. Force replication by selecting Request Now from the other site.

Microsoft Exchange Server will match this new account with the mailbox that was not deleted from the other sites, so only one mailbox will appear in the GAL on all servers.

  4. Delete the mailbox once again from the original server.

  5. Force replication again.

The mailbox will disappear from the original server, as well as from the GAL and other recipient containers.
