PRB: Acclaim Skeleton Rotations Cause Undesirable Flipping

Last reviewed: November 27, 1996
Article ID: Q157886
The information in this article applies to:
  • Softimage 3D for IRIX, versions 2.66, 3.0, 3.5, 3.51
  • Softimage 3D for Windows NT, versions 3.0, 3.01, 3.51

SYMPTOMS

When you load a skeleton with the Channel -> Get Motion -> File -> Acclaim_Skeleton command, your skeleton flips whenever the old 'softimage 180 degree angle' is crossed.

CAUSE

Because Softimage 3D performs rotations with a 180 degree angle, the rotation parameters of scenes created to perform rotations with full 360 degrees are not recognized and result in strange twisting where rotations were created.

RESOLUTION

A modified version of Acclaim_Skeleton that deals with this 'Alias-Style' rotation data is available on Softimage 3D's ftp site which is called

'cont_acclaim.tar' and is located at ftp.softimage.com in the /incoming
directory.

Backup your old acclaim driver before you install the new driver. You may need it to retrieve data containing skeleton rotations that you created in Softimage 3D.

Remember, acclaim is actually a custom effect (not a true channel driver) - so look for it in:

 /3D/custom/bin

Replace it with the modified version. It works with the same dialog box so it is not necessary to replace the 'Acclaim_Skeleton.cus'.
