PRB: Error Message "No Server Line in License File"

Last reviewed: November 27, 1996
Article ID: Q157335
The information in this article applies to:
  • Softimage 3D for Windows NT, version 3.51

SYMPTOMS

If Softimage 3D seems to be hanging, use Alt+Tab to access the license manager and verify the error message.

The following error message appears:

"No server line in license file"

CAUSE

Possible Cause 1

You installed as a FLEXlm Client instead of as a Server.

Possible Cause 2

Your License.dat file was saved in UNICODE format.

RESOLUTION

Solution For Cause 1

Remove your software and references to the FLEXlm server in the
services file and reinstall as a SERVER (contact Customers Support).

Solution For Cause 2

If you encounter the above error message and solution 1 does not resolve
the problem, complete the following steps:

  • In the Program Manager from the Softimage 3DV3.51 Group, double-click the License.dat file.

Because the file was saved incorrectly, the following error message appears, "Unable to open the Unicode Font. Will not be able to display certain characters." when you try to open the file.

The License.dat file then loads normally.

  • Choose Save As from the File menu. The Save As dialog box appears.

  • In the 'Save File As Type' box, select Text Files and then click OK.

  • Exit Notepad and start Softimage 3D.
