PRB: Resolving "TCP/IP Socket Not Working" Error Message

SYMPTOMS

When attempting to start SOFTIMAGE 3D for the first time, the error message "TCP/IP Socket Not Working" appears.

CAUSE

FLEXlm requires a TCP/IP resident on the client machine.

RESOLUTION

If you are installing SOFTIMAGE 3D on a standalone machine you must configure a "dummy" software-driven Ethernet card before installing TCP/IP. Complete the following steps to configure the card correctly:

  1. In the Main program group, double-click the Control Panel icon.

  2. Double-click the Network Settings icon.

  3. From the dialog box that appears, choose Add Adapter.

  4. From the list of adapters that appear, select MS Loopback Adapter.

  5. Choose Ok to exit the Network Settings dialog box.

  6. Start SOFTIMAGE 3D.
