Cannot Connect to Remote Node in User Location Service List

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft NetMeeting version 1.0 for Windows 95

SYMPTOMS

When you are using NetMeeting to connect to a User Location Service (ULS), you may be unable to connect to the server.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if NetMeeting was recently closed and your user name is still listed as being connected to the ULS server.

RESOLUTION

Wait a few minutes before attempting to reconnect to the ULS server.

MORE INFORMATION

By default, NetMeeting sends a termination message on closing that tells the server to remove the user name. This normally takes less than one minute.

Because of the Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) information being sent to the server, the ULS server may not know that NetMeeting has terminated, and the user name remains listed for approximately five minutes.
