NetMeeting May Not Work Properly with Intel ProShare

Last reviewed: August 26, 1997
Article ID: Q154609
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft NetMeeting version 1.0 for Windows 95

SYMPTOMS

When you use NetMeeting to connect to Intel ProShare, any of the following symptoms may occur:

  • The NetMeeting features, such as Application Sharing and Whiteboard, may not work properly.
  • If another NetMeeting client joins an existing conference between NetMeeting and Intel ProShare, the two NetMeeting clients may not function properly.

CAUSE

Both NetMeeting and ProShare rely on similar encoding and decoding software. ProShare 2.0 contains an older version of this software.

RESOLUTION

Contact Intel for information about upgrading the necessary software to be compatible.

MORE INFORMATION

If the incompatible Intel ProShare system attempts to call NetMeeting it may succeed, but will not have functionality. If the NetMeeting computer tries to call the ProShare system, it will not be successful.

It is also important to note that even with the upgraded ProShare files, NetMeeting will only be capable of file transfers with ProShare. Other NetMeeting functionality (Whiteboard, Chat, and Application Sharing) may not work directly with the ProShare system.
