PRB: "Text would be too long; change canceled" Error Message

    SYMPTOMS

    Novice: Requires knowledge of the user interface on single-user computers.

    When you copy a cell from Microsoft Excel to a text field in Microsoft Access, you may receive the following error message:

       Text would be too long; change canceled
    
    
    CAUSE

    This behavior occurs if the field size of the text field is set to the number of characters in the cell in Microsoft Excel.

    RESOLUTION

    To work around this behavior, increase the size of the field in the Microsoft Access table by at least 2.

    STATUS

    This problem no longer occurs in Microsoft Access 97.

    Steps to Reproduce Behavior

    1. In a new Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, enter the following in cell A1:

            123456789
      
    2. Select the cell, and on the Edit menu, click Copy.
    3. In a new Microsoft Access table, create a text field with a length of 9.
    4. Open the table and select the text field.
    5. Click Paste on the Edit menu.
