Selected Text May Not Contrast with Background

Last reviewed: January 14, 1997
Article ID: Q154480
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 3.0 for Windows 95

SYMPTOMS

You cannot change the background color for selected (or highlighted) text in Internet Explorer. This may make it difficult to perform cut and paste operations on Web pages with a dark background.

CAUSE

Internet Explorer uses the default Windows background color for selected text. You can set this color (and other colors) in Display properties.

Because the background color on a Web page is often not user-definable, you cannot always select a background color for selected text that will show up properly.

RESOLUTION

No color will work in all cases, but you may want to try changing the background text color. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. In Control Panel, double-click Display.

  2. Click the Appearance tab.

  3. Select the color you want for items in the Selected Items box.
