Mac: Volumes Will Not Mount, Applications Will Not Open

    SYMPTOMS

    Your computer starts normally, but you experience either of the following problems:

    • When you try to insert or mount an additional disk, you receive a system error.

      -or-

    • Your disk mounts, but when you try to open a files or start a program, you receive a system error.

    WORKAROUNDS

    NOTE: This article assumes that you have either Disk Tools/First Aid or a disk maintenance software program.

    For this potential  cause             Try this solution
    

    The application that you are          Re-install the application
    trying to open may be damaged         from the original, locked
                                          disk.
