SUMMARY

When a detailed Softimage 3D scene is assigned a high roughness value (five or greater) to accommodate the fineness built into it, it looks great. But, as the camera moves through the scene, the scene flickers, and the detail is lost. This flicker can also result if your Softimage 3D scene contains a high number of repeats or many textures.

You can use Antialiasing to work around this inconvenience with the following steps:

  1. In the Softimage 3D Matter module, select Render.

  2. In the Render Setup dialog box, click Antialiasing On.

  3. In the Antialiasing pop-up menu, select the Bartlett window option and assign a Filter value no higher than 2. If your Softimage 3D scene is very light or if you have plenty of time to devote to rendering, you can assign a Filter value of 3.

The Bartlett window option increases render time, but the results may be worth the wait.
