Internet Explorer Error Message: Could Not Open File... |
Q153592
When you open a local or remote Web page in Internet Explorer, you may receive the following error message:
where <Web address> is the location of the Web page, and <filename.htm> is the name of the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) document you are attempting to open.Could not open file: <Web address>\<filename.htm>
This error may occur if the .htm file you are trying to open contains a number sign (#) or percent character (%) in the file name.
If the .htm file is on your hard disk, rename the file and remove the
number sign (#) or percent character (%) from the file name. To rename a
file in Windows 95, click the file name in Windows Explorer, click Rename
on the File menu, and then type the new name of the file.
If the .htm file is on your local area network (LAN) or the Internet,
contact your system administrator or author of the .htm file to have the
file renamed.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Internet Explorer version 3.0 for Windows 95. We are researching this issue and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
