SUMMARY
Here is an example to illustrate how to use the Share function in the
Softimage 3D DB Manager:
- Load a primitive sphere.
- Rename the sphere share_test and save it. This is the file you want to
share.
- Save a scene that includes the same primitive sphere and name it
share_test. This is the scene you want to share to.
- Get->DB Manager and double-click MODELS to access the MODELS directory
of the database.
- Select the share_test model, click Set Share, and click Ok in the pop-up
warning box. The share_test model now appears preceded by an S prefix in
the SHARE subdirectory (S share_test).
NOTE: The shared element is always overwritten.
- Delete->All
- Get->Element, and the select MODELS chapter. Then select the SHARE
subdirectory and select the share_test model.
- Click Load.
- Select the share_test model again, and conduct a few transformations on
it to differentiate it from the same sphere that occurs in the
share_test scene.
- Save->Selected Models, and click Save.
- Delete-> All.
- Get->Scene, and Load the share_test scene. The sphere in the share_test
scene is now updated automatically in the share_test scene; the sphere
reflects the transformations conducted in the share_test model.
NOTE: The Set Share button allows you to share any file that is in any
chapter except PICTURES and RENDER_PICTURES.
If you no longer want to share a file, use the Set Share button as follows
to remove the share status by making the file distinct:
- Select share_test model.
- Click Set Share to display the Set Share pop-up.
- Select the Make distinct option you want for the share_test sphere:
- Make distinct for all scenes.
-or-
- Make distinct for the current scene only.
- Click Ok to remove the file from the SHARE subdirectory.
NOTE: Making the model distinct from the DB Manager (the process described
above), makes the model distinct only for all scenes. If you use Info-
>Elements to make a file distinct, you can set it either for all scenes or
for the current scene only.
