BUG: soft3ds Standalone Core Dumps on Mips 2

Last reviewed: July 10, 1996
Article ID: Q153429
The information in this article applies to:
  • Softimage 3D for IRIX, version 3.50

SYMPTOMS

At the time of installation, Softimage 3D version 3.5 has two possible Mips types: Mips 1 (all SGI systems) and Mips 2 (R4000 and up). The default is Mips 1.

The soft3ds standalone (which converts 3D Studio scenes to Softimage 3D) does not work on Mips 2; it produces a core dump and no conversion result.

RESOLUTION

Workaround this inconvenience by extracting soft3ds Mips 1, and here is how:

  1. Make sure the CD-ROM contains CD1 of the Softimage 3D installation CDs in the drive.

  2. either specify as root (or superuser) by copying as follows:

          cp /CDROM/mips1/3D/bin/soft3ds /path/to/softimage/3D/bin

or change directory (cd) to the location of the current soft3ds standalone, which would be softimage/3D/bin, and specify as root (or superuser) by copying as follows:

          cp /CDROM/mips1/3D/bin/soft3ds .

NOTE: The space+dot ( .) at the end of this line is important to direct the copy to the current (working) directory.
