SYMPTOMS
========

When you attempt to connect to Money Online Services, you may receive the
following error message:

   The PIN or password you entered was wrong. Please try again.

When you click OK, you receive the following error message:

   A prior call to Online Services was interrupted and must be completed before
   other online tasks can be done. Do you want to complete the call now?

If you click Yes, you receive the same error messages again. If you continue to
click Yes, your financial institution or online banking service provider may
eventually lock you out of your account.

CAUSE
=====

This behavior can occur if all of the following conditions are true:

 - When you first attempt to connect to Online Services, you type an incorrect
   PIN or password.

 - When you first attempt to connect to Online Services, the call is not
   completed successfully.

 - Your financial institution uses CheckFree or VISA/Integrion to provide online
   banking services.

When you call Online Services, Money creates a set of communication files to
track the call.

If you cannot complete the call, Money enters Crash Recovery mode, and attempts
to complete the call using this set of files (that include the original PIN or
password you typed).

RESOLUTION
==========

To resolve this issue, use the following methods.

If you receive a message stating that you have entered too many incorrect PINs or
passwords, use the phone number on the Contact Information tab or the Bill Pay
tab to contact your financial institution or online banking service provider to
reset your PIN or password.

If the incomplete call contained bill payment instructions, you must determine if
your financial institution or online banking service provider received the
instructions. For additional information about how to do this, please see the
following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

   Q148300 Money: Avoiding Duplicate Payments When Communication Fails

If the incomplete call did not contain bill payment instructions, follow these
steps:

1. On the File menu, click Open.

2. In the Files Of Type box, click All Files (*.*).

3. For each of the following files you see in the list of files, right-click the
   file, click Delete, and then click Yes

    - <filename>.npc
    - <filename>.npd
    - <filename>.vsa
    - <filename>.vsb

   where <filename> is the name of your Money file.

4. Click Cancel.

5. Attempt to connect to Money Online Services.

6. When you receive the "A prior call to Online Services was interrupted" error
   message, click Yes.

7. When you receive the following error message, click OK:

   Money attempted to recover from a previous communications error, but couldn't
   due to missing communications files. Please send your original transactions
   again.
