Summary:
 
To count the number of occurrences of specific information in a
particular field in a Microsoft Works database, do the following:
 
For Works 1.x and 2.00:
 
1. Sort the database on the field on which the count is to be done.
 
2. Create a new field called "Count" in the database. This should be a
   computed field.
 
3. Enter "=1" as the calculation for the field.
 
4. From the Report menu, choose New Report.
 
5. Select the entire Count field by clicking in the column heading.
 
6. From the Totals Page menu, choose Sum This Field.
 
7. Select the field on which the occurrences are being counted.
 
8. From the Totals Page menu, choose "Take a Sub-Total on Field Change".
 
9. From the Edit menu, choose Copy Totals.
 
The total number of occurrences of each specific item will be in the
Clipboard in the Count column.
 
For Works 3.00:
 
1. Sort the database on the field on which the count is to be done.
 
2. Create a new field called "Count" in the database.
 
3. Go to the Form menu and choose Format Field.  Choose type as
   "Number", and then choose "Formula".  Enter "=1".
 
4. From the Report menu, choose New Report.
 
5. Select the entire Count field by clicking in the column heading.
 
6. From the Totals Page menu, choose Sum This Field.
 
7. Select the field on which the occurrences are being counted.
 
8. From the Totals Page menu, choose "Subtotal when Field Contents
   Change".
 
9. From the Edit menu, choose Copy Totals.
 
The total number of occurrences of each specific item will be in the
Clipboard in the Count column.
