SUMMARY
=======

When you use the Communications module of Microsoft Works with the
Apple Personal Modem, the Hang Up command on the Communications menu
does not always function properly.

Under certain circumstances, to hang up, you may need to choose Dial
from the Communications menu a second time.

RESOLUTION
==========

To correct this problem, verify the Answer Phone status (on the
Communications menu) before closing the communications file and ending
a session. If Answer Phone is selected, deselect it. If Answer Phone
is deselected, select it, then deselect it again.

You can also try disconnecting the phone from the modem or unplugging
the modem from the wall to reinitialize it, then plugging it back in.

MORE INFORMATION
================

If Answer Phone is selected, after closing the communications file,
quitting Works, and turning off the Macintosh, the modem will be put
in auto-answer mode. Later, when a call comes in (only after the
Macintosh is turned off), the modem will answer the phone and produce
a high frequency tone. When you reboot the Macintosh and use the Works
Communications module again, Answer Phone may not be selected even
though the modem will remain in auto-answer mode.
