Summary:

If you select an entire Microsoft Word document and use the ruler
change the paragraph indents, Word assumes that that ruler setting is
to be used for the entire document and will apply the tab stops (along
with the indents) from the first paragraph to the entire document.

To avoid this problem, choose Paragraph from the Format menu and type
the desired indents in the Right and Left indent boxes. This will
change the indents for all the selected paragraphs without affecting
their tab formatting.
