Summary:

The most common disk errors encountered in Microsoft Word include the
following:

1. "Serious disk error on file." Word encountered a disk error when
   reading or writing a file.

2. "Unrecoverable disk error on file." Word encountered a disk error
   when reading or writing a file.

3. "System Error -36." This System error indicates that Word
   encountered a physical problem when writing to disk. This problem
   can happen when Word is saving a print file to a program disk.

With all of these disk errors, it is most likely that the disk is
permanently damaged and the computer will have be shut down.
