SUMMARY
=======

In some cases, it is necessary to configure the content types for the files used
to view Liquid Motion animations. This article describes what Multipurpose
Internet Mail Extensions (MIME) types are necessary and how to configure them on
the server.

MIME stands for Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension, a standard for identifying
the type of content contained in a file based on its extension. MIME is an
Internet protocol that allows you to send binary files across the Internet. Some
web servers will properly serve files if the content types are registered on the
server.

NOTE: If animations can be browsed on your server now, then no new action is
needed and it is not necessary to follow the steps in this article.

MORE INFORMATION
================

NOTE: You should perform these procedures on the server that is hosting the
Liquid Motion animation. If a Web Presence Provider (WPP) or Internet Service
Provider (ISP) hosts your Web, please contact them.

Method 1: Add the appropriate MIME Types on the Web Server
----------------------------------------------------------

Edit the MIME types on the Web server. To do this using an Apache or NCSA Web
server, follow these steps.

NOTE: Because there are several versions of UNIX and several versions of the
Apache and NCSA server, the following steps may be different on your computer.
If they are, please consult your product documentation to complete these steps.

1. Open the mime.types file in a text editor. By default, this file is located
in the \conf folder under the server root.

2. Add the following lines:

   application/java-archive jar
         application/liquidmotion jcz jck
         application/directx x

3. Save and close the file.

4. Restart the Web server.

To add the appropriate MIME types on servers that do not use the same mime.types
files, you must add the MIME type using the interface that your Web server
provides, and perform these steps:

1. Configure the MIME Types on your server by using the following settings:

   - Associated Extension: jar
   - Content Type (MIME): application/java-archive

   - Associated Extension: jcz
   - Content Type (MIME): application/liquidmotion

   - Associated Extension: jck
   - Content Type (MIME): application/liquidmotion

   - Associated Extension: x
   - Content Type (MIME): application/directx

2. Restart your Web server.

3. Browse to a page that contains a Liquid Motion animation. If you experiencing
problems with the animation, go to Method 2.

NOTE: Do not view the animation from the same computer that is running the Web
   server.

Method 2: Configure the default MIME type
-----------------------------------------

If you still cannot browse to Liquid Motion animations on the server after
following the steps in Method 1, you must configure the default MIME type on the
server. To configure the default MIME type on an Apache or NCSA Web server,
follow these steps.

NOTE: Because there are several versions of UNIX and several versions of the
Apache and NCSA Web server, the following steps may be different on your
computer. If they are, please consult your product documentation to complete
these steps.

1. Open the Srm.conf file in a text editor. By default, this file is located in
the \conf folder under the server root.

2. Find the line (not beginning with a comment tag or pound sign [#]) that
   begins with DefaultType.

3. If this line is present, change it to the following:

   DefaultType text/plain

If the line is not present, add it.

4. Save and close the file.

5. Restart your Web server.

To configure the default MIME type on servers that do not use the same Srm.conf
files, you must use the interface that your Web server provides.
