SYMPTOMS
========

When you create an account in Microsoft Money at a financial institution where
you have already created one or more accounts owned by a different person, you
may experience the following symptoms:

 - The financial institution does not recognize or acknowledge the account.

 - When you use Online Banking, the financial institution sends you information
   only about the new account.

 - When you use Online Banking, you receive a message stating that the account
   does not exist at the financial institution, or that the information you
   supplied is invalid.

CAUSE
=====

This behavior can occur because Money allows only one account owner for each
financial institution in a Money file. Two people cannot own separate accounts
at the same financial institution in a single Money file, although they can own
any number of accounts jointly.

RESOLUTION
==========

To resolve this issue, create a second copy of the financial institution in
Money for the additional account. To do this, follow these steps:

NOTE: After you complete these steps, you must make a separate call to the
financial institution for each account owner when you use Online Banking.

1. If Online Banking is enabled for the additional account, disable it.

   For more information about how to do this in Money 98, please see the
   following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

   Q175728 Money 98: How to Disable and Enable Your Online Accounts

   NOTE: If the icon for the account in Account Manager appears with a lightning
   bolt, the account is enabled for Online Banking.

2. In Account Manager, double-click the account owned by the second person.

3. On the left side of the screen, click Details.

4. Click Modify.

5. In the New Name box, type the name of the financial institution followed by
   your initials, and then click OK.

6. Click Online Setup.

7. When you are prompted to change the name for all accounts at this financial
   institution, click No.

8. Click Online Setup.

9. Click Investigate Offerings, and then follow the instructions on the screen
   to set up the financial institution with the correct information.

   NOTE: When you are prompted for the name of the financial institution, type
   the actual name of the financial institution.

10. Click Set Up Online Services, and then follow the instructions on the screen
   to finish setting up Online Services for the new account.

   NOTE: If you are using Money 99, click Set Up Direct Services.

MORE INFORMATION
================

When you create a new account with a different owner at the same financial
institution, the information for the new account replaces the information for
the first account in the Money file.

If your financial institution supports it, you may be able to link both owners'
accounts to a single user name and password. For more information, contact your
financial institution.
