SYMPTOMS
========
 
When you install Word 5.1x to a disk drive larger than 2 gigabytes (GB),
the installation may fail with one of the following error messages:
 
   There is not enough space on the disk "<Macintosh HD>" to complete the
   installation. Quit the Installer, remove some items from the disk
   "<Macintosh HD>," and try again. Or try installing on another disk.
 
   -or-
 
   There's a problem with the disk "<Macintosh HD>". No installation can
   take place. (Error #2231)
 
   -or-
 
   An error occurred while installing on the active startup disk
   "<Macintosh HD>". Installation was not able to be completed, but your
   original software has been restored.
 
NOTE: <Macintosh HD> is the name of your Macintosh hard disk drive.
 
RESOLUTION
==========
 
To resolve this problem, upgrade to Microsoft Word 6.0 for the Macintosh or
later.
 
WORKAROUND
==========
 
To install Microsoft Word 5.1 on a disk drive larger than 2 GB, use the
following steps:
 
1. On the Install disk, double-click the Installer application.
 
2. Continue the Installer application until you reach the Easy Install
   dialog box.
 
3. In the Easy Install dialog box, click Customize.
 
4. Select one of the following items and then click Install:
 
   - Complete Install (No Sys. Resources)
 
     -or-
 
   - Minimal Install
 
5. Continue the Word installation as usual.
 
MORE INFORMATION
================
 
If you do a Complete Install (No System Resources), the following files
are considered System Resources and are not installed:
 
 - MTExt: font used for several mathematical symbols in the Equation
          Editor.
 
 - Voice Record: used to record voice annotation.
 
NOTE: You cannot add System Resources back in if you run Setup again. If
you attempt to add System Resources, one of the error messages listed in
the Symptoms section of this article appears.
 
If you do a Minimal Install, only the following files are installed:
 
 - Microsoft Word (application program)
 - Word 5.1 ReadMe
 - Standard Glossary
 - Text Annotations
 - Spelling files
 - Symbol (font)
 - Thesaurus files
 - Toolbar
 - Hyphenation
 - Word 5 Command Help
