The information in this article applies to:
 
 - Microsoft Windows Update, used with:
    - Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 4.0, 5 for Windows 98

SYMPTOMS
========
 
When you are downloading a component from the Windows Update site, you may
receive the following error message:
 
   An unknown error has occurred during installation
 
If you click Back and then click Download again, you may receive the following
error message:
 
   This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shutdown
 
If you click Details, you may see the following error message:
 
   Explorer caused an exception C0010000H in module MSJAVA.DLL at015F:xxxxx.
 
When you click Close, all of the icons disappear except for the Volume icon and
you may need to restart your computer to regain full functionality.
 
Also, when you are attempting to use the Products Update portion of the Windows
Update site, you may receive the following error message:
 
   Cannot Display Page (see Q 187938)
 
CAUSE
=====
 
This behavior may occur if you have one of the following third-party software
programs installed and enabled:
 
 - Software Builders International NetZip, version 4.0 http://www.netzip.com
 
 - McAfee VirusScan, version 4.0 http://www.mcafee.com
 
 - Norton Antivirus http://www.symantec.com/nav/index/html
 
 - One Click Zip
 
RESOLUTION
==========
 
To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods:
 
Method 1
--------
 
Temporarily disable NetZIP:
 
1. Right-click the NetZIP icon on the right side of the taskbar, and then click
   Disable.
 
2. Download the component from the Windows Update site.
 
3. After completing this, right-click the NetZIP icon on the right side of the
   taskbar, and then click Enable.
 
Method 2
--------
 
Uninstall NetZIP:
 
1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
 
2. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
 
3. Click the Install/Uninstall tab, click NetZIP, click Add/Remove, and then
   follow the instructions provided to uninstall NetZIP.
 
NOTE: If you choose to remove/disable any third party application and need help
with how-to-remove steps, or are concerned about being able to reinstall them
later, please go to the manufacturer's Web site for additional information or
contact them directly.
