The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft PowerPoint 98 Macintosh Edition
 - Microsoft PowerPoint for Macintosh, version 4.0

SYMPTOMS
========

Drag and drop functionality does not work in Slide Sorter View in
Microsoft PowerPoint version 4.0.

CAUSE
=====

This behavior occurs if both Microsoft Office for the Macintosh,
version 4.2, and Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition are installed
on the same hard disk. Microsoft Office 98 installs a newer version of
the OLE Libraries. PowerPoint uses these libraries for drag and drop
functionality. PowerPoint 4.0 is not compatible with the new OLE
libraries.

RESOLUTION
==========

You can partition your hard disk into two separate logical disks and
install a version of Office on each partition. For additional information,
please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

   TITLE : OFF: How to Create a Dual-boot Macintosh for Office

NOTE: This method requires that you reinitialize your hard disk and
reinstall all software.

As an alternative, you can workaround this behavior and use a cut
and paste operation rather than drag and drop functionality. To do
this, follow these steps:

1. Select the slide you want to move.

2. Press COMMAND+C. This step cuts the selection from your presentation
   and pastes a copy of the slide on the Clipboard.

3. On the View menu, click Slide Sorter.

4. Click where you want to past the slide and then press COMMAND+V.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article.
