SYMPTOMS
========

After you export an account from MSN Investor to Microsoft Money 98 or Money 99,
the number of shares in the account may change when you update prices in Money
with Online Quotes.

For example, an Investor contains a transaction for 100 shares of XYZ at $20.00.
If you enter a 2 for 1 split, the transaction shows 200 shares at $10.00. If you
export the account that contains this transaction to Money, Money initially
shows 200 shares at $10.00. However, if you view Online Quotes to update the
price and the 2 for 1 split occurred within six months, the transaction now
shows 400 shares at $5.00.

CAUSE
=====

Investor does not export split transactions from a security's transaction list
into Money. Exported transactions that are dated prior to the split have already
been adjusted for the split when imported into Money. Therefore, if the split
occurred within the last six months, the imported transactions will be split
again after receiving Online Quotes.

NOTE: If you add the split transaction to Money before you import from Investor,
this issue does not occur.

RESOLUTION
==========

Use the appropriate method for your situation.

If You Completed the Import
---------------------------

If you completed the import, use either of the following methods to correct the
duplicated split information:

 - Change the transactions in Money to remove the effect of the extra split.

-or- - Delete the split from the price history in Money.

Manually Changing the Transaction:

After you read the statement that contains the transactions imported from
Investor, manually adjust the incorrect transactions to the correct number of
shares and price per share. To do this, follow these steps:

1. In Money, go to the account register for the investment account that contains
   the incorrect transaction(s).

2. Edit the transaction to correct the information. Using the example at the
beginning of this article, you would change the quantity from 400 shares to
200 shares and the price from $5.00 to $10.00.

3. Repeat step 2 for any other transaction(s) that you want to change.

Deleting the Split from the Price History in Money:

After you read the statement that contains the transactions imported from
Investor, you can delete the split from the security's price history. This
removes the effects of the split on transactions dated prior to the split date.

NOTE: If you use this method, the price history in Money may no longer be
accurate with respect to the split.

1. In Money, click Investments on the navigation bar, and then click the
security you want on the Investments menu.

2. Click Details, and then click Update Price.

3. Click the split transaction, and then click Delete. If you are prompted to
   confirm the deletion, click OK.

If You Have Not Completed the Import
------------------------------------

To prevent this issue from occurring, you can import the Investor account without
splitting the imported transactions twice. To do this, use either of the
following methods:

 - Create the securities that will be imported into Money and update prices
through Online Quotes before reading the Investor statement.

-or- - Delete the split transaction in Investor before exporting to Money. This
method uses a backup file in Investor so you can restore the split
   transactions.

Creating Securities and Updating Prices Using Online Quotes:

Update security prices using Online Quotes before you import the transactions
from Investor to the Money investment account.

NOTE: If you have already completed the import into a new Money investment
account, delete that Investment account first.

1. Export your account(s) from Investor to Money 98 or Money 99.

   a. Click the account you want to export to Money 98 or Money 99.

   b. On the File menu in Portfolio Manager, point to Export, and then click
      Account To Microsoft Money 98.

   c. If Money is not currently running, you can start Money to complete the
import. If you choose not to do so at this time, the import is completed
the next time you start Money.

2. In Money, click Investments on the navigation bar. Click New, and then click
A New Investment. Complete this wizard for each security that you want to
   add.

NOTE: Use the symbol for the security that was used in MSN Investor.

3. Click Online Quotes to let Money add six months of historical pricing data to
   each new security's price history.

4. On the Money navigation bar, click Online (or Online Banking in Money 98).

5. Double-click the investment account where you exported the Investor
transactions, click Statements & Balances, and then click Read Statement.

Deleting the Split in Investor Before Exporting to Money:

Before exporting the account to Money, delete any split transaction in each
security's transaction list. To do this, follow these steps:

1. First, be sure to back up your data file so that you can easily restore the
split information afterward. In MSN Investor, click Backup on the File menu
in Portfolio Manager. Type a file name, and then press ENTER.

For additional information, please see the following article in the Microsoft
   Knowledge Base:

Q164062 How Do I Backup My Investor Data?

2. Double-click a security's name in the account you want to export to Money.

3. In the Investment Details dialog box, click the Transactions tab.

4. If there is a split transaction, click the split transaction, and then click
   Delete.

5. Repeat steps 2-4 for any other securities in the account you want to change.

6. Export your account(s) from Investor to Money 98 or Money 99 as follows:

   a. Select the account you want to export to Money 98 or Money 99.

   b. On the File menu in Portfolio Manager, point to Export, and then click
      Account To Microsoft Money 98.

   c. If Money is not currently running, you can start Money to complete the
import. If you choose not to do so at this time, the import will complete
the next time you start Money.

7. In Money, click Online on the Money navigation bar, double-click the
investment account where you exported the Investor transactions, click
Statements& Balances, and then click Read Statement.

1. Switch back to Investor. Restore the backup you created in step 1 by clicking
Restore Backup on the File menu in Portfolio Manager, and then double-click
the file name of the backup file. This returns your data file to the state it
was in when it contained the splits you deleted in steps 2-4.
