Microsoft has released Microsoft Chat version 2.5 for Windows 95,
Windows 98, and Windows NT 4.0.

Microsoft Chat 2.5 includes the following new features and improvements:
 
 - Rules you can use to define a response to events.
 
 - Notification when your friends log on to the same chat server that you
   are logged on to.
 
 - Comic artwork is compressed to reduce the file size of comic characters.
 
 - IRC and IRCX command support.
 
 - Status can display chat server information and responses to many IRC and
   IRCX commands.
 
 - User List displays the users in a room without entering the room.
 
 - You can view the history of the messages and commands that you have
   previously sent, and send a command or message again when you press the
   UP ARROW key.
 
 - Improved Play Sound user interface.
 
 - Plays MIDI or WAV sound files.
 
 - You can send sounds and actions to specific users with Whisper or IRC
   commands.
 
 - You can use macros to send actions, sounds, and predefined messages.
