The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Windows Update, used with:
    - Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.0 for Windows 98

SYMPTOMS
========

When you attempt to download the "Internet Explorer Frame Spoof Security Fix",
or the "Microsoft Libraries Update" from the Windows Update Web site, the Web
site may not display the size of each download and you may get a "Download
Failed" error message.

If you are using a proxy server, you may receive error messages indicating that
your network configuration is incorrect.

CAUSE
=====

Some older versions of proxy servers like Wingate Proxy and Ositis Software's
WinProxy do not support ports that the Windows Update Site uses to transfer
information. This can happen if you are using a version of WinGate Proxy
software that is earlier than 3.0.

RESOLUTION
==========

Contact your System Administrator about your port configuration. System
Administrators may want to contact the vendor to see if there is a newer version
of the proxy server available. If you are using WinGate Proxy software, upgrade
the WinGate software to version 3.0 or later.

Please note that the Windows Update Site uses Port 80 for its connection
settings.
