SYMPTOMS
========

If you are investigating offerings for your financial institution in the Online
Setup place in the Online Financial Services area, you may receive the following
error message:

   Money is unable to make a dial-up connection to this server. A newer
   version of Dial-up Networking is required.

This occurs if you are making a direct modem connection, rather than an Internet
connection, or you are making a modem connection directly to a Dial-Up
Networking server at your financial institution.

CAUSE
=====

This behavior can occur for any of the following reasons:

 - Password caching may be disabled on your computer.

NOTE: Disabling password caching is something that may be done in a corporate
network situation and usually does not apply to a home user unless you have
manually edited the registry.

 - Your Windows password list file <username>.pwl (where username is the
   name you use to log on to Windows) may be damaged.

This can occur in Windows 95 if you have not installed Dial-Up Networking version
1.2 and the Windows 95 Winsock upgrade.

NOTE: Windows NT 4.0 SR1 and Windows 98 ship with Dial-Up Networking version 1.2.
For instructions on how to install Dial-Up Networking on these operating
systems, refer to Windows online Help.

RESOLUTION
==========

If you suspect that password caching may have been disabled on your computer,
please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

   Q148925 Dial-Up Networking Password Is Not Saved

If you suspect that your password list file may be damaged, rename the
<username>.pwl file. See the "More Information" section later in this
article for detailed instructions on how to accomplish this.

Money 99 ships with Dial-Up Networking version 1.2 and the Windows 95 Winsock
upgrade on the Money 99 CD-ROM. To install the Dial-Up Networking upgrade, run
Wsockupd.exe and then run Msdun12.exe.

For more detailed instructions, see the "More Information" section later in this
article.

2. In the Named box, type "<username>.pwl" (without quotation marks), and

   b. Type the new file name, and then press ENTER.
