SUMMARY
=======

This article offers a technique for activating the Emergency Save feature
when SOFTIMAGE|3D is in an infinite loop or frozen.

MORE INFORMATION
================

Instead of killing the process and losing your work, you may be able to
kill the process in such a way that will activate the emergency save. In
order for this to work, the Emergency Save option must be enabled (the
default setting) when the problem occurs.

To find the SOFTIMAGE|3D process id, enter the command:

   ps -ef | grep soft

Then to kill the process and activate the emergency save, enter the
command:

   kill -SEGV <softs_process_id>

Success of the Emergency Save is determined by the severity of the system
crash.
