Extracting the Advapi32.dll File
--------------------------------

To extract the Advapi32.dll file, use the appropriate method for your
operating system.

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Windows, the following steps
may be different on your computer. If they are, please consult your
product documentation to complete these steps.

Windows 95
----------

To extract an updated copy of the Advapi32.dll file, follow these steps:

1. Insert the Outlook 98 compact disc in your CD-ROM drive.

2. Click the Start button, point to Find, and then click Files And Folders.
In the Named box type "Ie4_s1.cab" (without the quotation marks).
In the Look In list, click to select the CD-ROM drive and then click
   Find Now.

3. When the file is found, right-click it and then click Copy on the
shortcut menu. Close the Find dialog box. Right-click your Windows
   desktop, and then click Paste.

NOTE: Although the desktop is a convenient place to locate these files
for the extraction steps that follow, you may choose a different
location, and substitute your directory choice in the following steps
   where the destination reads Desktop.

4. On the Start menu, click Shut Down and then click Restart In MS-DOS
   Mode.

5. When your computer restarts, at the MS-DOS command prompt, type the
following command, and then press ENTER to rename the old copy of
   Advapi32.dll

    ren <drive>:\<windows>\system\advapi32.dll advapi32.old

where <drive> is the letter of the drive containing the Windows folder,
and <windows> is the name of the folder in which Windows is installed,
   for example:

    ren c:\windows\system\advapi32.dll advapi32.old

NOTE: This procedure assumes you do not have a file named Advapi32.old.
If you do have a file by this name, use a file name extension that is
   not currently in use.

6. The extraction process involves two steps. First, type the following
   command, and then press ENTER

    extract /L <drive>:\windows\desktop ie4_s1.cab ie4_1.cab

where <drive> is the letter of the drive containing your Windows folder.

7. Type the following line, and then press ENTER

    extract /L <drive>:\windows\desktop ie4_1.cab advapi32.dll

where <drive> is the letter of the drive containing your Windows folder.

8. To copy the newly extracted Advapi32.dll to the appropriate destination,
type the following line and then press ENTER

    copy c:\<drive>:\windows\desktop\advapi32.dll <drive>:\windows\system

where <drive> is the letter of the drive containing your Windows folder.

9. To restart Windows, type the following line and then press ENTER

    exit

OEM Service Release 2 (OSR2) CD-ROM to the Windows\System folder. The
Advapi32.dll file is located in the Win95_17.cab cabinet file on the
Windows 95 OSR2 CD-ROM.
