SYMPTOMS
========

Investment reports (such as Performance By Investment Account) may show
negative amounts where positive amounts should be (such as reporting a loss
instead of a gain under Gain/Loss or % Gain).

CAUSE
=====

If you try to sell or remove more shares of an investment than you own,
Microsoft Money 98 prompts you with the following dialog box:

   You are selling or removing more shares of '<investment name>'
   than this Investment Account contains. There are <number of
   shares> shares available for sale or removal on the date you
   entered. Would you like to change the Sell or Remove Shares
   to use that quantity?

If you click Yes, Money enters the sell transaction with the adjusted
quantity; however, if you then run an investment report, it may indicate a
loss where a gain should be.

RESOLUTION
==========

To work around this problem, use either of the following methods.

Method 1: Manually Edit the Transaction
---------------------------------------

1. Click Investments on the navigation bar.

2. Double-click the Investment Account which contains the transaction
   that needs to be edited.
   This opens the Account Register.

3. Locate the transaction within the Account Register, and double-click the
   transaction to edit it.

4. Delete the value in the Price box.

5. Delete the value in the Total box.

6. Retype the Price.

7. Click Enter to record the transaction.

Delete and Reenter the Transaction
----------------------------------

1. Click Investments on the navigation bar.

2. Double-click on the Investment Account which contains the
   transaction that needs to be deleted.
   This opens the Account Register.

3. Locate the transaction within the account register, and use the right
   mouse button to click (right-click) the transaction. Then click Delete
   on the shortcut menu.

4. Click Yes to confirm that you want to delete the transaction.

5. Reenter the transaction using the correct number of shares.

Your investment reports should now reflect the correct Gain/Loss and %
Gain.
