SYMPTOMS
========
 
When you run Money 98 or Money 99, images on the Money Home screen and certain
other screens may be missing.
 
CAUSE
=====
 
This behavior can occur if any of the following conditions are true:
 
 - Microsoft Internet Explorer is configured to not display pictures.
 
 - The image files are missing from the WebCache and Images folders in the
   Microsoft Money folder.
 
 - A program associated with the GIF Image and JPEG Image file types is not
   compatible with Microsoft Money, or a graphics program that creates
   associations for multiple file types including GIF Images and JPEG Images is
   installed on your computer.
 
RESOLUTION
==========
 
To resolve this issue, try each of the following methods.
 
Verifying Internet Explorer Settings
------------------------------------
 
To resolve this issue, verify that Internet Explorer is configured to display
pictures. To do this, follow the appropriate steps for your version of Internet
Explorer:
 
Internet Explorer 5.0
---------------------
 
1. On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options.
 
2. On the Advanced tab, scroll down to the Multimedia section in the Settings
   box.
 
3. Under Multimedia, click to select the Play Animations, Play Sounds, Play
   Videos, Smart Image Dithering, and Show Pictures check boxes.
 
4. Click OK.
 
Internet Explorer 4.0
---------------------
 
1. On the View menu in Internet Explorer 4.0, click Internet Options.
 
2. On the Advanced tab, scroll down to the Multimedia section.
 
3. Under Multimedia, click to select the Play Animations, Play Sounds, Play
   Videos, Smart Image Dithering, and Show Pictures check boxes.
 
4. Click OK.
 
Internet Explorer 3.x
---------------------
 
1. On the View menu in Internet Explorer, click Options.
 
2. Click the General tab.
 
3. Under Multimedia, click to the select the Show Pictures check box.
 
4. Click OK.
 
If the issue continues to occur, the image files may be missing from the WebCache
Images folders. To resolve this issue, reinstall Money.
 
If the issue continues to occur, reset the associations for the GIF Image and
JPEG Image file types. To do this, follow these steps:
 
1. On the Windows desktop, double-click My Computer.
 
2. On the View menu, click Options or Folder Options.
 
3. Click the File Types tab.
 
4. In the list of registered file types, click the first image file type you
   find.
 
5. If the Extension line under File Type Details contains multiple file name
   extensions, including GIF and JPG, click Remove, and then click Yes.
 
   NOTE: This does not affect the ability of program to load these types of image
   files.
 
6. Repeat steps 4 - 5 for all image file types in the list of registered file
   types that contain multiple file name extensions, including GIF and JPG.

Windows 95 and Windows NT rely on file name extensions to determine file types.

Windows use the registry to associate file name extensions with the default
program to open that type of file.
