========

When you attempt to install Microsoft Money 98 or Microsoft Money 99, you may

 - The TEMP environment variable points to an invalid folder.

 - Programs that are running in the background are interfering with the
   installation program.

RESOLUTION
==========

To resolve this issue, use the following methods, in the order in which they are
listed:

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Windows, the following steps may be
different on your computer. If they are, please consult your product
documentation to complete these steps.

Clean the Money CD-ROM
----------------------

Inspect the silver side of the Money CD-ROM for scratches that may prevent the
CD-ROM drive from reading it. If there are no scratches, the CD-ROM may need
cleaning.

To clean the CD-ROM, gently wipe the silver side of the CD-ROM with a soft,
lint-free cotton cloth. Do not use paper cloth which can scratch the plastic and
leave streaks. When you clean the CD-ROM, wipe from the center of the disc
outward; do not use a circular motion.

If the issue continues to occur, proceed to the next method.

Reduce Your CD-ROM Cache Settings
---------------------------------

Reduce the CD-ROM cache settings to decrease the likelihood of CD-ROM read
errors. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2. Double-click System.

3. On the Performance tab, click File System.

4. On the CD-ROM tab, move the Supplemental Cache Size slider to the Small
   setting.

5. In the Optimize Access Pattern For box, click No Read-Ahead.

6. Click OK, and then click OK again.

7. When you are prompted to restart your computer, click Yes.

If the issue continues to occur, repeat these steps to change the Supplemental
Cache Size setting to Large and the Optimize access Pattern For setting to
Quad-Speed Or Higher.

If the issue continues to occur, proceed to the next method.
