SYMPTOMS
========
 
If you click a mailto tag Universal Resource Locator (URL) in the body of
an e-mail message in Microsoft Outlook 98, a new, untitled e-mail message
starts. The new message is automatically addressed to the recipient
indicated in the mailto tag, but none of the other fields in the message
header are completed.
 
CAUSE
=====
 
The default mail format is set to HTML.
 
RESOLUTION
==========
 
Choose one of the following methods to correct the problem.
 
Use Rich Text Format
--------------------
 
To change the default mail format to "Microsoft Outlook Rich Text," follow
these steps:
 
1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
 
2. On the Mail Format tab, in the "Send in this message
   format" list, click to select "Microsoft Outlook Rich Text" and then
   click OK.
 
Edit the Mailto Tag
-------------------
 
Edit the mailto tag by changing the ampersand (&) character in the mailto
tag to a question mark (?).
 
STATUS
======
 
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Outlook 98.
We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the
Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
