SYMPTOMS
========

When you install Microsoft Money, you may receive one of the following error
messages:

   - Mscofd.dll was unable to register itself in the system registry.

   - Money98ol.dll was unable to register itself in the system registry.

When you click OK, Money Setup finishes installing Money. When you attempt to
start Money, you receive one the following messages:

   - Mnyutil.dll is linked to missing export Oleaut32.dll.

   - Mnyutil.dll is linked to missing export Mfc42.dll.

Alternately, when you install Money, you may receive one of the following error
messages:

   - Bds98.dll was unable to register itself in the system registry.

   - Msofd.dll was unable to register itself in the system registry.

When you click OK, you receive the error message:

The installation did not complete successfully.

CAUSE
=====

After installing Money, Windows restarts your computer to register system
dynamic-link libraries (DLLs). If this registration is not successful, you
receive the error messages described in the "Symptoms" section.

These errors may occur if you are running memory-resident programs or other
programs that interfere with the Money installation program. If a program
running in the background uses certain .dll files, Windows cannot register the
DLLs because they are in use.

RESOLUTION
==========

To resolve this issue, restart your computer and then try starting Money. If the
issue continues to occur, use the appropriate method for the error message you
received.

Money Setup: "The Installation Did Not Complete Successfully"
-------------------------------------------------------------

If you receive a "The installation did not complete successfully" error message
when you install Money, restart Windows without loading any terminate-and
stay-resident (TSR) programs, other memory-resident programs running in the
background, or device drivers (this is called a clean boot), and then reinstall
Money. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Clean boot the computer. To do this, use the appropriate method for your
   version of Microsoft Windows.

   Windows 95:

   a. Restart the computer. When you see the "Starting Windows 95" message,
press the F8 key, and then choose Command Prompt Only from the Startup
      menu.

   b. At the command prompt, type "win" (without the quotation marks), and then
press ENTER. Press and hold down the SHIFT key until Windows finishes
starting. This prevents any programs from loading automatically when
      Windows starts.

   c. Quit all running programs except Explorer and Systray. To do this, press
CTRL+ALT+DELETE, click the program you want to quit, and then click End
Task. If you receive a message that the program is busy or not responding,
      click End Task again.

Repeat this step until you have quit all programs except Explorer and
      Systray.

   d. Disable any anti-virus or disk tool programs installed on the computer.
For information about how to disable these programs, see the printed or
      online documentation for the program.

   Windows 98:

The System Configuration Utility tool (Msconfig.exe) is a new tool in Windows
98 that makes a clean boot much easier to perform. To use the System
Configuration Utility tool to perform a clean boot in Windows 98, follow
   these steps:

   a. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System
Tools, and then click System Information.

   b. On the Tools menu, click System Configuration Utility.

   c. On the General tab, click Selective Startup, and then click to clear the
      following check boxes:

       - Process Config.sys File
       - Process Autoexec.bat File
       - Process Winstart.bat File (if available)
       - Process Win.ini File
       - Load Startup Group Items

   d. Click OK, and then restart your computer when you are prompted to do so.

NOTE: To restore your original configuration, click Normal Startup on the
General tab in the System Configuration Utility tool.

2. To reinstall Money, insert the Money 98 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. If
Money 98 Setup does not start automatically, follow these steps to manually
   start Money 98 Setup:

   a. Click Start, and then click Run.

   b. In the Open box, type the following line, and then click OK

   <cd-rom>:\setup.exe

where <cd-rom> is the letter of the CD-ROM drive.

3. Follow the instructions on the screen to install Money 98.
