SYMPTOMS
========

When opening Microsoft Money you may receive the following error:

   'Error Starting Program'

A required .dll file, <file name>, was not found.

Or, when backing up to a floppy disk drive you receive the error message:

Money is unable to load the file Compdll.dll. Either the file
is missing or your system is low on memory. First, try closing
some other applications. If this doesn't work, you may need to
reinstall Money from your original product disks.

However, closing all programs and reinstalling Money does not resolve this
problem.

CAUSE
=====

Money may be unable to find the required files due to an incomplete
installation of Money.

RESOLUTION
==========

To resolve this issue, delete your Setup.stf file and then reinstall Money.
If that does not resolve the issue, try adding the location of the dynamic-
link library (.dll) files to the working directory of the shortcut used to
open Money.

Method 1: Delete the Setup.stf File and Reinstall Money
-------------------------------------------------------

1. To delete the Setup.stf file, follow these steps:

    a. Click the Start button, point to Programs, and click Windows
       Explorer.

    b. Navigate to the Microsoft Money folder; its default location is:

          C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money

    c. In the Microsoft Money folder, double-click the Setup folder.

    d. In the Setup folder, locate the Setup.stf file.

    e. Using your right mouse button, right-click the Setup.stf file, and
then click Delete on the shortcut menu.

    f. Click Yes when you are prompted with the following message:

Are you sure you want to send 'Setup.stf' to the Recycle Bin?

    g. On the File menu, click Close.

You are now ready to reinstall Money.

2. To reinstall Money, follow these steps:

    a. Insert your Money CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive.

    b. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.

    c. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.

    d. Click the Install/Uninstall tab.

    e. In the list of programs, click to select Microsoft Money 98 or
       Microsoft Money 99.

    f. Click Add/Remove.

    g. Follow the Setup program to completion.

Method 2: Modify Your Money Shortcut
------------------------------------

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Windows, the following steps
may be different on your computer. If they are, please consult your product
documentation to complete these steps.

To modify your Money shortcut, follow these steps:

1. Right-click the Start button and click Open on the shortcut menu.

2. In the Start Menu folder, double-click the Programs icon.

3. Right-click the Microsoft Money shortcut icon.

4. Click Properties.

5. Click the Shortcut tab.

6. In the Start In Line box, add the following to the end of the
   existing path:

      \system

The Start in Line should now look something like this; note the
   quotation marks are needed

      "C:\<Program Files>\<Microsoft Money>\System"

where <Program Files>\<Microsoft Money> is the directory where Money is
   installed.

7. Click OK and close all open windows.

NOTE: You do not need to restart the computer.

8. Click the Start button, point to Programs, and then click Money.

NOTE: If you have another shortcut you use to open Money, modify it as
well, following steps 3-8 for each shortcut.
