---------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:

 - Softimage 3D for IRIX, version 3.7
 - Softimage 3D for Windows NT, version 3.7
---------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

At render time, the error message "PICTURE name_of_pic.pic cannot be
found" appears.

CAUSE
=====

Your picture files have not been stored in a location that SOFTIMAGE 3D
checks.

RESOLUTION
==========

SOFTIMAGE 3D Looks for Picture Files in the following places:

 - the explicit file path saved with the texture in the texture file.
 - the PICTURES chapter of the database where the scene is loaded from.
 - the PICTURES chapter of any system database.
 - the path specified in the scene file, under the ELEMENTS:PICTURES.
   chapter listing (so you can change these paths by hand if required).

If you copy your pictures to one of the above locations when loading the
scene, SOFTIMAGE 3D will check each of the four locations and then locate
them successfully. Next time you save the scene, you are prompted to save
the pictures in the current scene database.

STATUS
======

This behavior is by design.
