SYMPTOMS
========

The Microsoft Money 98 Home screen contains a listing of Internet headlines
from MSN Investor headlines. These headlines may disappear leaving only the
option to Update Internet Information. Clicking the link to Update Internet
Information does not provide any new headline information.

CAUSE
=====

After opening your Money 98 data file seven times, the current headlines
will no longer appear on the Home screen. Updating Internet Information
refreshes the Home screen with new headline information. If there is no new
headline information, then no headlines will be visible.

RESOLUTION
==========

NOTE: Because there are several versions of Windows, the following steps
may be different on your computer. If they are, please consult your product
documentation to complete these steps.

The headlines are updated on a weekly schedule. If you have downloaded the
latest headlines, you will not receive a new download until a new file is
available.

If there is a new file but the headlines are still not displayed, try each
of the following methods (in order).

Method 1: Delete Cached Files
-----------------------------

1. Quit Microsoft Money.

2. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows Explorer.

3. Click the folder where you installed Microsoft Money. The default
   location is:

      C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money

4. Double-click the Webcache folder.

5. Delete any files in the Webcache folder that have the following
   extensions:

      .cab
      .ini

IMPORTANT NOTE: Do not delete the Images subfolder, nor the files
within it. Do not delete files with the extensions .jpg or .gif.
Do not delete the file Invest.htm.

If you cannot see all of the extensions, follow these steps to
   change your view:

      a. On the View menu, click Options. If you are running Microsoft
Internet Explorer 4.01, click Folder Options.

      b. Click the View tab; then click to clear the "Hide MS-DOS file
extensions for file types that are registered" check box.
If you are running Internet Explorer 4.01, click to clear the
"Hide File Extensions for Known File Types" check box.

      c. Click OK.

6. Restart Microsoft Money and click Update Internet Information on the
   Home screen.

Method 2: Reset the Registry
----------------------------

NOTE: The file(s) mentioned in this article only apply to the U.S. English
version of Microsoft Money.

The following file is available for download from the Microsoft
Software Library:

 ~ Headline.exe

For more information about downloading files from the Microsoft Software
Library, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

TITLE : How to Obtain Microsoft Support Files from Online Services

Save the file to a location on your hard disk (but not in your
Windows\System folder), and then double click Headline.exe. This extracts
two files:

Headline.reg - This resets the Internet download information.

Readme.txt - Information about how to use this file.

Contents of Readme.txt
----------------------

To reset your Internet download information, follow these steps:

1. Quit Microsoft Money.

2. In Windows Explorer, locate and double-click the Headline.reg file. You
   may receive the following error

      Registry Editor
Cannot import C:\<directory>: Error opening the file.

There may be a disk or file system error.

where <directory> is the path up to the first space in a directory
name. To work around this problem, drag the Headline.reg file to the
desktop and double-click the file from that location.

NOTE: The registry editor cannot correctly parse a file's path if
there are spaces in the file name. Dragging the file to the Windows
desktop or to a directory that has no spaces in the full path to it,
allows the file to be registered by double-clicking.

3. Open Microsoft Money and on the Home screen, click Update Internet
Information. This downloads and displays the last set of available
   headlines.
