 - Microsoft Money 98
---------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

When attempting to generate one of the Monthly Reports, Money responds in
one of the following ways:

 - You get a General Protection Fault.

    -or-

 - You get an Invalid Page Fault.

    -or-

 - Money stops responding during the "Reviewing your accounts for
   potential problems" stage in the Monthly Report Progress dialog box.

CAUSE
=====

General Protection Faults or Invalid Page Faults
------------------------------------------------

If you are getting general protection faults or invalid page faults, there
may be other programs running in the background in Windows that conflict
with Money. These conflicting programs include error detection programs
such as First Aid.

Money Stops Responding
----------------------

If Money appears to stop responding, a large confirmation number may be
slowing down the report generation. After you send the online transactions,
the bank sends Money a confirmation number. The confirmation number is
entered into the Number field of the transaction sent. The confirmation
number is often ten digits long.

This confirmation number in the Number field of the transaction is
interpreted by the reports as a check number. The Monthly Report parses
through each number to see if there are gaps between check numbers. If your
check numbers are normally in the thousands range and there is a
confirmation number with ten digits, Money counts from the number in the
thousands to the number in the trillions. This makes Money appear to stop
responding.

RESOLUTION
==========

General Protection Faults or Invalid Page Faults
------------------------------------------------

If you are getting invalid page faults and general protection faults,
determine which program running in the background is causing the error and
turn it off before using Money.

Money Stops Responding
----------------------

If Money is not responding, examine the downloaded transactions. If the
transactions have large confirmation numbers in the Number field, follow
these steps:

1. In the Account Register of Money, double-click the transaction with the
   large confirmation code. This places you into edit mode.

2. Select the Confirmation number.

3. On the Edit menu, click Cut to remove the number.

4. If this transaction has an associated check number, type it in now.

   NOTE: If you want to keep the confirmation number, place the insertion
   point in the Memo field, and click Paste on the Edit menu.

5. When all the edits have been made, click the Enter button to save the
   transaction.
