Microsoft Money requires the RLE Video Compression Codec and ActiveMovie
to play the Product Tour and other files. This article describes how to
ensure that the correct RLE Video Codec is installed and working, and how
to remove and reinstall the version of ActiveMovie that ships with Money.

Verifying RLE Video Compression Is Working
------------------------------------------
 
To verify the RLE Video Compression Codec is working correctly, use the
appropriate method for your version of Microsoft Windows.
 
Windows 98
----------
 
1. Open Money.
 
2. On the Help menu, click About Microsoft Money, and then click System
   Info.
 
3. In the Microsoft System Information dialog box, click the "+" sign
   next to Components, then click the "+" sign next to Multimedia.
 
4. Click Video Codecs to display the list of installed video codecs
   in the right pane. Scroll down if necessary and verify that
   information similar to the following is diplayed:
 
      Key: vidc.MRLE
      Description: RLE
      Group: icm
      Driver: msrle32.dll
      Version: 4.10.0.1998
      Date: 5/11/98 20:01
      Size: 28672 bytes
 
NOTE: The verion number and date shown on your computer may be different
from the example listed above. If different, the version should be higher
and the date should be more recent.
 
Windows 95
----------
 
 1. Open Money.
 
 2. On the Help menu, click About Microsoft Money, and then click System
    Info.
 
 3. In the Microsoft System Information dialog box, click the "+" sign
    next to Video, and then click RLE.
 
 4. On the toolbar, click the button with the green triangle (Start Test).
 
 5. Make sure your Money CD-ROM is in your CD-ROM drive, and then click to
    select your CD-ROM drive in the Look In list.
 
 6. Navigate to the following folder (assuming your CD-ROM drive is letter
    D):
 
       D:\Money98\Tour\Product\Media
 
 7. Open the 01intro.avi file by double-clicking it.
 
 8. The video clip should play with sound. To close this window while the
    video clip is playing, click the Close button (the "x") on the
    window's title bar.
 
 9. When prompted, click Yes or No depending on whether you saw and heard
    the video play.
 
10. On the File menu, click Exit to close the Microsoft System Information
    dialog box.
 
If the video played with sound, the RLE Video Compression Codec is working
correctly.
 
If not, check whether the RLE Video Compression is installed, and install
it if necessary.
 
Installing RLE Video Compression If Necessary
---------------------------------------------
 
1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control
   Panel.
 
2. Double-click Multimedia, and then click the Advanced tab.
 
3. Click the + sign next to Video Compression Codecs, and see if
   RLE is listed.
 
4. If RLE is not listed, install it by following these steps:
 
    a. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
 
    b. Double-click the Add New Hardware icon. This opens the Add New
       Hardware wizard.
 
    c. Click Next to start the wizard.
 
    d. Click No, and then click Next when asked:
 
          Do You Want Windows to Search For Your New Hardware?
 
    e. Under Hardware Types, click Sound, Video and Game Controllers and
       then click Next.
 
    f. Under Manufacturers, click Microsoft Video Codecs. Under Models,
       click RLE.
 
    g. Click Next, and then click Finish to install the RLE Video
       Compression Codec.
 
Removing and Reinstalling ActiveMovie
-------------------------------------
 
Use the appropriate method for your version of Microsoft Internet
Explorer.
 
Steps for Internet Explorer 3.02a:
 
1. Make sure the Money 98 CD-ROM is in your CD-ROM drive, and that no
   other programs are running.
 
2. Rename the following files found in the \Windows\System folder:
 
      Amovie.ocx
      Actmovie.exe
      Quartz.dll
 
   To do this, follow these steps:
 
    a. Click the Start button, point to Find, and then click Files Or
       Folders.
 
    b. In the Named box, type Amovie.ocx.
 
    c. Click Find Now.
 
    d. Using the right mouse button, right-click the Amovie.ocx icon,
       and then click Rename on the shortcut menu.
 
    e. Rename the file to Amovie.old.
 
    f. Repeat steps a-e for Actmovie.exe and Quartz.dll, changing
       each of the file's extensions to .old.
 
3. Click the Start button, point to Programs, and then click MS-DOS
   Prompt.
 
4. In the MS-DOS Prompt window, type the following and then press ENTER:
 
      cd C:\Windows\Desktop
 
   NOTE: If you did not install Windows to your C drive or if you
   Installed Windows to a directory other than Windows, then substitute
   the drive letter and path you used in place of C:\Windows.
 
5. In the MS-DOS Prompt window, type the following command to extract
   amovie.exe, and then press ENTER:
 
      Extract D:\Money98\Money98.1 Amovie.exe
 
   NOTE: If your CD-ROM drive uses a different drive letter, substitute
   it for D.
 
6. Once the extraction is complete, close the MS-DOS Prompt by typing
   "exit" (without the quotation marks), and then press ENTER.
 
7. The Amovie.exe icon should now be visible on the desktop. Double-click
   the Amovie.exe icon to run ActiveMovie Setup.
 
Steps for Internet Explorer 4.0:
 
1. Make sure the Money 98 CD-ROM is in your CD-ROM drive, and that no
   other programs are running.
 
2. Rename the following files found in the \Windows\System folder:
 
      Amovie.ocx
      Actmovie.exe
      Quartz.dll
 
   To do this, follow these steps:
 
    a. Click the Start button, point to Find and then click Files Or
       Folders.
 
    b. In the Named box, type Amovie.ocx.
 
    c. Click Find Now.
 
    d. Using the right mouse button, right-click the Amovie.ocx icon,
       and then click Rename on the shortcut menu.
 
    e. Rename the file to Amovie.old.
 
    f. Repeat steps a-e for Actmovie.exe and Quartz.dll changing
       each of the file's extensions to .old.
 
3. Reinstall Internet Explorer 4.0 by double-clicking the Internet Setup
   icon you used to first install Internet Explorer 4.0.
