The information in this article applies to:

 - Softimage 3D for IRIX, versions 3.5, 3.51, 3.7
---------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

The following error message appears when you try to run SOFTIMAGE 3D after
upgrading to the next version:

   SI_ERROR: dbloadRelationDictionary() Cannot open resource file
   /usr/softimage/3D/rsr!/Relations.rsrc

Note that the "c" is missing in "rsrc." As a result, SOFTIMAGE 3D will not
start.

CAUSE
=====

You have not installed (or are not using) the latest version of FLEXlm and
the Softimage licensing daemon that you received with your upgrade.

RESOLUTION
==========

When upgrading SI3D, ensure that you also upgrade to the latest version of
FLEXlm that comes with the install CD-ROM. To upgrade FLEXlm, complete the
following procedure:

1. Make a backup copy of the softimage.dat file. This file is usually
   located in /usr/local/flexlm/licenses for SI3D v 3.5 or v 3.51, or
   /usr/softimage/flexlm/licenses for SI3D v3.7.

2. Stop the FLEXlm license server with the following command:

   For SI3D v 3.5x:

      /etc/init.d/flexlm stop

  For SI3D v 3.7:

     /etc/init.d/siflexlm stop

3. If you are upgrading from SI3D v3.5x to SI3D v3.7, rename the flexlm
   script from /etc/init.d to /etc/init.d/flexlm.old. This ensures that the
   correct version starts when rebooting (/etc/init.d/flexlm).

   If you are upgrading from SI3D v3.5 to SI3D v3.51, rename the flexlm
   directory /usr/local/flexlm to flexlm.old.

   NOTE: If you have other applications that use FLEXlm, do not rename this
   directory. In this case, manually copy the FLEXlm binaries from the
   Softimage CD to the FLEXlm binary directory.

4. Using the 3D Install program, go under "License Server Administration"
   and select "Configure Server"; this installs and configures the FLEXlm
   server with the proper version of FLEXlm

5. Restore your license file.

6. Restart the FLEXlm daemons with the following command:

   For SI3D v 3.51

      /etc/init.d/flexlm start

   For SI3D v 3.7

      /etc/init.d/flexlm/siflexlm start

STATUS
======

This behavior is by design.
